How To Remove Synchronization Data In Windows 8 With A Microsoft Account
Windows 8 has a great feature of settings synchronization by which we can sync all our settings and data across multiple Windows 8 computers. All this is done through SkyDrive which is integrated in Windows 8.
If you want to enable synchronization feature in Windows 8, you will need to use your Microsoft account instead of the local Windows account to login to Windows 8. Since Microsoft account is connected to the cloud storage of SkyDrive, you will be able to use the free storage of SkyDrive.
When you enable sync for your account in Windows 8, all your personal settings and configurations will be stored in Microsoft’s online servers. When you login with your Microsoft account in another Windows 8 PC, you will get the same settings and personalization that you get in your own PC.
So what settings and preferences are stored and synced online? Here’s the list:
- Your chosen colors, themes, language preferences, browser history and favorites, and Windows Store app settings are synced between PCs.
- You can get to and share your photos, documents, and other files from Microsoft SkyDrive, Facebook, Flickr, and other services without signing in to each one.
Customize the synchronization settings
To customize which settings to sync, go to Windows 8 search (WinKey + Q) and search for “sync your settings”.
Under Settings, click on “Sync your settings”. The next screen will lead you to a lot of settings which you can turn on or off according to your own choice.
Stop synchronization of your account data
If, for some reason, you want to stop the synchronization of your account settings and preferences, you can go to the same “Sync your settings” screen again and Turn off the first slider “Sync settings on this PC”.
Remove synchronization data completely from Microsoft servers
If you have finally decided to completely delete your settings and preferences data from the cloud, you can easily do so by following the steps below. There can be many reasons to remove sync data like your settings have gotten corrupted or you want to close your Microsoft account and turn to local Windows 8 account etc..
When you stop synchronization of your account data, most of the data is removed from the cloud servers while some data will still remain. To delete it completely, follow this link and sign into your Microsoft account.
This will lead to the “Delete your personal settings from the cloud” page. You can safely click on the Remove button at the end of the page to delete everything from the cloud. Please note that this will not affect your settings in your local PC. The settings and preferences on your PC will remain intact.
Were you able to remove all the settings using this method? Please share your experiences with us in the comments.
